Definition Bovine anaplasmosis results from infection with Anaplasma marginale. A second species, A. centrale, has long been recognised. Anaplasma marginale is responsible for almost all outbreaks of clinical disease. A third species, A. phagocytophilum, has been reported rarely to infect cattle, and does not cause clinical disease
